Like you, I’m strapped into life’s roller coaster of gifts, graces and challenges. It’s easy to be grateful when things are going well. And it can be tough to find the silver lining within the cloud of life’s adversities.

I endured chronic and life-threatening medical issues. After 23 years as a full-time mom and homemaker, my marriage ended. I lived in fear while my son, a Marine, fought in Iraq. I lost my mom to Alzheimer’s years before she left her earthly body. I experienced the heartbreak of watching my father’s last breath.

What saved me? A fierce determination to answer the question, “How can I use this adversity as a springboard for growth, strength, wisdom and change?” Feeling very alone while grieving multiple losses, I tapped into my maternal instinct and made the conscious choice to mother myself back to wellness.

What This Means for You

That powerful shift took me from hopeless to hopeful. It fueled my passion to teach, inspire and empower others—kind of like a mom. Then I learned more ways to help:

  • Getting my yoga teacher certification from Moksha Yoga Center in Chicago
  • Attending Central Mass Yoga and Wellness in Boston, and becoming certified as an instructor for the Yoga Warriors International Method, designed for veterans, so I could teach them how to combat negative thoughts, hyper-vigilance, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other military traumas
  • Earning a degree in mind/body transformational psychology—and certifications in holistic wellness, whole food nutrition and life coaching—from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe

Now both of us have all of these resources and knowledge to draw upon!
